Panasonic strive to make taking the perfect picture as easy as possible and with the TZ7 they really have pulled out all the stops with the new AF tracking and Face recognition feature that is included on the camera. The TZ7 actually remembers faces making it hard to not take the perfect photo.
When a familiar face is recorded several times, the camera will prompt you to register the face. Once complete, if the familiar face appears into your frame again, the camera will display the name you specified for that person and prioritize focus and exposure so that the registered face is bright and in sharp focus. This is a fantastic feature if you are taking a group photo as the auto focus and auto exposure will prioritise the most important people ion the photo as set by you.
During registration, you can change the icon that indicates when the registered subject is in focus – for example you can attach a love heart to your partner. You can also manually register a person’s details and the camera will remember them whenever you take a photo.
An added feature of the face recognition function is the ability to set ages with the name and these can be printed on the photo for you. When babies under 3 years-old are registered, the camera will automatically switch to Baby mode if the baby appears into the frame. You can also sort your photos by the person’s name so that when playing back your photos you only see ones tagged with their name; this is excellent if you are looking to put together an album for that person.
With AF Tracking, the DMC-TZ7 can lock onto any subject and keep it in focus even if it moves – making it easy to get beautiful, clear shots when a great photo opportunity suddenly arises. Simply aim, lock, and shoot.
The face detection system digitally corrects unwanted red-eye during recording for you automatically giving your pictures an excellent appearance without the need for editing. The TZ7 also includes Mega O.I.S. and Intelligent ISO control which prevents blurring from hand shake and movement.
The Mega O.I.S. now has an AUTO mode to select between the conventional Mode 1 and 2 depending on which mode best suits the zoom ratio being used. Intelligent Exposure optimizes the exposure for each part of an image, preventing blocked shadows and blown highlights and helping ensure that gradation and details are reproduced beautifully. It now features an automatic backlight compensation function that activates whenever the subject is in backlight. Intelligent Scene Selector automatically detects the five most common shooting situations – Portrait, Night Portrait, Scenery, Night Scenery and Macro – and switches to the appropriate Scene mode.
All of these excellent advanced functions can easily be put on even before pressing the shutter button by simply selecting the iA mode. All in all this camera is fully loaded with all the technology and gadgets that makes taking the perfect professional looking photo effortless.
